A.I. Root Middle School Welcome to A.I. Root Middle School! We represent one of two middle schools in the Medina City School District housing approximately 700 students, grades 6-8. Our goal is to help every student find success and continue to grow academically and socially. Middle school is such a pivotal and exciting time for students to develop as leaders in skills of: Character: respectful citizens as responsible decision makers Interactions With Others: effective collaborators and communicators Thinking and Learning: innovative problem-solvers, inspired learners, and discovering their unique strengths, passions, and interests. At Medina City Schools, we believe teaming provides a student-centered environment where students feel safe, supported, and a sense of belonging which helps them grow to be productive members of society. We value partnerships with Root students, staff, families, and our greater Medina community. Our students receive opportunities in core academic areas (Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies) along with courses in Art, Project Lead the Way, Music (Band, Choir, Orchestra), Physical Education, Foreign Language, Health, and other elective courses all designed to develop a student’s knowledge and experiences. ABOUT CTE COURSES THAT MRS. HEARRINGTON TEACHES: STEM is a great introductory course that exposes you to all of the great technological fields: transportation, energy and power, agriculture and biotechnology, manufacturing, architecture and construction, information and communication, and medical technology. I love the variety of this class and the fun, hands-on projects that we do. You students always surprise me with your innovation and creativity! In 2021, I went full circle by teaching Flight & Space as I have always loved aerospace technology, history and development (grew up near a city airport), was in the Civil Air Patrol cadet program for three years in high school, and was Female Cadet of the Year in Civil Air Patrol for the State of Florida my senior year. We have a great time in this class making things fly and "blowing" things up! I love teaching Green Architecture, as well, because you get to design, measure, and build many things, including a house! Engineering Essentials is a new PLTW course for me. As PLTW describes it, "Building enthusiasm for and a real understanding of the role, impact, and practice of engineering is a primary goal of the course." As stated above, that is my favorite thing about CTE so this course will be exciting as we have more time to build our skills measuring, using tools like GIS, a caliper, and making many things that will help us see all of the many types of engineering there are that make our technical world go! We'll get to b...
