What are the benefits of refrigerating skincare products?
"If you store your products in the bathroom, they are susceptible to damage from shower steam," Akram adds. The best skincare fridges can help last longer when kept cool, much like your food. Plus, there's also the added benefit of some products feeling better when they're kept cold. "Applying chilled products helps with puffiness and swelling, soothes inflammation, and provides a firming effect on the skin," she notes.
Which skincare products should be refrigerated?
"Depending on product formulation and how it is packaged, most toners, mists, serums, eye creams, and face masks (including sheet masks) are the most suitable products to be kept in a skincare fridge," Akram explains.
Some products shouldn't be stored in the fridge, however, to avoid altering their textures. "Keep in mind most cream-based products with more dense formulations including serums, moisturizers, and masks should not be chilled. This makes it more difficult to apply the product to the skin. Oil-based products are also not suitable for the fridge as they can also harden," the esthetician says.
