Three suspects and a sheriff’s office K-9 jumped from an Escambia County bridge Monday evening following a drive-by shooting and subsequent police chase.
One of the suspects died from his injuries after jumping off the bridge, Sheriff Chip Simmons said Tuesday morning.
A second suspect, 19-year-old Jaquarius Trayquan Etheridge, has been charged with murder while engaged in a crime for the death of the suspect, attempted murder for the drive-by shooting, fleeing and eluding, and a weapons offense. He is jailed without bond.
The third suspect, the one chased over the bridge by K-9 Streeter, was not captured as of mid-morning Tuesday.
The shooting with some 40 rounds fired happened about 6:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts Avenue and Montclair Elementary School area. A 70-year-old woman was reportedly shot in the neck. Simmons said she was continuing to fight for her life.

The suspect vehicle was located and fled from deputies.
A pursuit was initiated, ending when deputies used a PIT maneuverto stop the stolen vehicle on the Highway 90 Bridge over Escambia Bay, near Scenic Highway.
Authorities said at least three firearms were located inside the vehicle.
No deputies were injured in the incident, and No names have been released.

Firearms can be purchased from private sellers without a background check.
There are no mandatory safety classes required to purchase a firearm.
I took the NRA “safety course” before getting my concealed carry permit. It was a joke.Reducing the number of irresponsible gun owners would reduce the number of firearms that are stolen, misplaced, or sold to third parties, only to end up on the black market later. We have simple steps that we could take to make it more difficult for criminals to get their hands on guns.
But you all just don’t care.

uhhhh Bob, there are background checks for LEGALLY purchasing a firearm…key word there is LEGALLY. In order for a young person to obtain a hunting license they must attend and pass a firearms safety course. Before someone is issued a concealed carry permit they have to attend and also pass a firearm safety course…as well as a rigorous background check.
We aren’t going to reduce the firearms on the black market by any of the tactics you mentioned. Criminals, as well as thugs, aren’t going to take a safety course or go through an agency to submit to a background check. These types, that did the shooting, most likely got those guns through a drug transaction or theft. I really don’t know or have the answers to curtail these types from having these weapons that they use to commit such crimes. Make examples of them in the judicial system instead of slapping them on the wrist and letting them back out. But until we turn into a perfect utopia where there are no “evil people”, maybe we should try to make it harder for those evil people to acquire firearms.
One of the most effective ways to do that is by reducing the supply of firearms on the black market. Which we can do by enforcing mandatory safety classes and background checks before buying a gun.

@David…these type of people can/will get these type of weapons through any means(drug deals, stolen). With the current restrictions on gun purchases (which I fully support background checks and waiting periods…yes, I’m a big supporter of the 2nd) I can’t see how one involved in such illegal activities would be sold any/such firearms like pictured. There’s so many different ways a bad person can acquire a weapon like these that are pictured without getting them legal. You are correct Sir, we have a problem but it’s not a gun problem, it’s an EVIL PERSON problem. I too hope to this elderly victim recovers from their injuries and I’m elated that the K9 officer is doing better. We must do a better job at protecting ourselves and protect those around us. They get the weapons from car burglaries! The number of gun owners who leave their guns in a vehicle overnight is alarming. People still leave their vehicles unlocked with a weapon inside, along with money and their wallet.

Where in the world are these punks getting weapons such as the one shown? I would hope that our legitimate gun dealers aren’t selling them to thugs such as these. But at looking at the seemingly random, senseless, shootings that are taking place lately, how do these people justify their actions? It really makes no sense to me. I hope that this makes it in the news, for maybe someone else has the answer.

I hope and pray the K9 recovers with no bad injuries.
Why was he off leash , did the handler not think he would
jump off after the suspect. I think that’s what happened cause these handlers love these dogs like a family member.
So let’s be understanding and pray for the handler as well.

Big prayers for the puppy. Of course we are to pray for everyone…and I do…but is wrong that I’m more concerned about this K9 Officer. That wasn’t a question! Im praying for the victim that was injured from this cowardice act. Yes, I pray for the salvation of these 3 criminals because I know all too well that if a person will get out of GODS way then they too can change their life and turn negatives like this into a more positive way of life…they have to get out of their own way as well! When one lives a lifestyle like these 3 do what are they to expect when it comes to times/situations like this. It’s enevitable. At that location on the bridge that’s a heckuva drop to the ground/water below. I’m thankful for OUR DEPUTIES who risk their lives daily to keep OUR STREETS safe and do their part…that’s a special breed of people willing to do this for you and I. Great job Deputies…I really do care more that the puppy will be ok!!!
