Why does Quest hold lab results? ›

The message will also provide additional information on getting your results. If you are waiting for lab results in CA, KY, MD, or PA, your lab results may be held for a period of time before they are released. This hold time is in place to comply with state-specific laws and is included in the estimated delivery date.

Sometimes incomplete or out-of-date demographic information gets sent with a lab test order. When this occurs, Quest Diagnostics can't always match a lab test result to your Quest Account, and in such cases, we can't send a lab test result to MyQuest.

Getting your results

Most test results are available within 2-5 days of collection. Yet some complex testing may take 14 days or more. Quest sends completed test results directly to the ordering doctor for review. Results will also be available in your MyQuest account as tests are completed.

Remember there are many reasons why a healthcare provider will contact you after a medical test. If results are concerning, they may call you or have a receptionist call to schedule an appointment. 15 A healthcare provider may also call to assure you everything is okay or discuss any needed follow-up tests.

Most tests are performed within a few days, but some complex testing can take longer to complete. Results delivery is based on how your tests were ordered or purchased.

In most cases, lab test results delivery times should not exceed two weeks. The most common reason for delay in receiving results is inaccurate or out-of-date personal information on record with your health care providers or in your Labcorp Patient™​ portal personal profile.

The bill you received is for laboratory services provided by Quest Diagnostics, which were ordered by your physician. This bill is for laboratory testing fees only and is separate from any bill you may have received from your physician and/or paid at your physicians office.

Routine blood test results usually take 72 hours to get back and be checked by your GP. If there is anything that needs discussing further, your GP will call you as soon as they get the results back. If there are no problems with the results, then you will not be contacted.

Your test results will be delivered to your doctor and your MyQuest account as soon as they are available. You can check the In progress section of the Results tab to see the estimated delivery date(s) for your test results. You should always follow up with your doctor to discuss your results.

If the order includes any tests that were routed to a different lab, and you click Hold, the order is split, and each order is put on hold for the appropriate lab.

These pending test results are usually for tests with long turnaround times, such as blood cultures or sexually transmitted diseases. The system populates these events into a list that must be reviewed by the end of each shift (Figure 2).
