What is a passing grade at St Joseph's University? ›

Grades of C and D are considered passing grades at St. Joseph's University. Nursing students, however, must achieve a grade of C or above in all upper-division required courses.

Grades. Classes are graded according to the following scale: A-excellent; B-good; C-passing but unsatisfactory; F-failure. There is no grade of D. Plusses and minuses may be given, except that C- does not exist.

Degree Requirements

A minimum of 120 credits and a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 are required for graduation.

C - this is a grade that rests right in the middle. C is anywhere between 70% and 79% D - this is still a passing grade, and it's between 59% and 69%

You'll usually need to receive a letter grade between A and D to pass a class, often the numerical equivalent of 65 percent or higher. Receiving an F—which stands for “fail”—indicates that you did not pass the class. The cutoff to receive an F is usually 64 percent.

It indicates that you've gotten grades between B+ and B- for the majority of your classes, giving you a percentile between 83% and 86%. A 3.0 GPA is considered a straight “B” average and makes you a competitive applicant for a number of colleges and universities.

Many people wonder, “What is a passing grade in college?” Coming from high school, the grading system doesn't really change. In fact, a “D” is considered passing in both high school and college, as it's above 60%. While a passing grade may be as low as 60%, you will want to aim higher for many reasons.

A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA is required for program consideration (students with a cumulative GPA below a 3.0 are encouraged to apply for an alternate program). An interview is required at the time of admission.

Recipients must achieve a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale and be engaged in community service and/or extracurricular activities.

Undergraduate St. John's scholarship recipients are required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative index in order to have their scholarship renewed. Law/Graduate academic scholarship terms are monitored by the individual schools. The student must contact their academic dean regarding scholarship terms.

The college does require all tutors to award letter grades to their students at the end of each semester (A=Excellent, B=Good, C=Satisfactory, D=Passing, F=Failure, with pluses and minuses, and I=Incomplete) and authorizes them to decide what elements they will take into consideration and in what proportion.

A student who wishes to withdraw from a course must complete a Change of Program form and have it signed by the appropriate Academic Dean. The date of withdrawal shall be computed from the date the student completed and signed the Change of Program Form.

Most colleges and universities generally consider a "D" (or a 60% to 69% score) as a passing grade. It's important to note that this minimum or lowest passing grade standard can significantly vary depending on the institution or major. For instance, some universities may require a "C" or better to pass.

The College uses a percentage grading system of 1 to 100%, and the course passing grade for most courses is 50%.

C+, C, C- indicates satisfactory performance. D+, D, D- indicates less than satisfactory performance. F indicates unsatisfactory performance (no credit: always include last date of attendance). P indicates Pass (A-, B and C will automatically be replaced by "P" when the Pass/No Pass option has been requested.

The normal grading range is from 55 to 100. The number grades correspond to letter grades as reflected in the chart below. The minimum passing grade is 70 (C). Any grades between 55 and 69 (D and F) are considered failing grades for which unit credit is not earned.
